Ender's Game Movie Searching for New Director

io9 reports that Wolfgang Peterson is no longer directing the Ender's Game movie and producers are currently meeting with candidates to find a replacement.

Peterson's involvement in Ender's Game has been in doubt since last month when it was announced he would be directing the scifi movie Uprising.

EG Producer Lynn Hendee also gave a number of updates on the current status of the film:
  • Orson Scott Card is currently working on revisions to his latest draft of the script.
  • Casting will not begin until a director is chosen, so it's too early to speculate on who might be cast to play Ender Wiggin.

In other news, Marvel Comics announced today that there will be an Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow comic book series, written by Chris Yost (New X-Men, X-Force), with art by Pasqual Ferry (Ultimate Iron Man) and overseen by OSC.

This could be a warm-up for the Ender's Game movie, since Card explains that, "I'm hoping Marvel will show [Hollywood] how it's done, because you guys know how to put the story down in a visual way so that it comes to life."

The Marvel thing is a good idea in terms of marketing the film, and prepping hollywood.

I think I speak for most EG fans when I say that this movie has taken WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too long to get rolling...and it still has no Director.

*sigh*

Geeeez, I wasn't even BORN when the book came out. I really hope I'm still ALIVE when the movie does... how pathetic, I may as well just accept that I will never see Ender's Game on screen. Maybe that's a good thing, they will probably rape it when they make the movie..

This is exciting news....very exciting. Awesome about the comic books...well the other news about not having a director is a tad sad...but oh well. They'll find one. I'm sure.

I'm just happy to see a posting of information on this potential movie. I'm also happy to see that Card is actively involved in the screen play which bodes well for the thing...whenever it does happen.

I think that the book might be better served in a tv-series format, similar to the new battlestar gallactica series, or one of my favorites firefly. Each book could be a season with two series spinning off the original first season still based on enders game and enders shadow. Instead of trying to cram the whole story into 2-3 hours, you would have something like 24 hours to tell the same story.

This is great news. Sorry, Wolfgang, but craps like The Perfect Storm and Air Force One makes you a terrible choice for this project.

Wow they sure are taking their sweet time with this movie. Hopefully that means it's going to be good! I can't wait to see their visual interpretation of OSC's great descriptions of battles, etc

We don't want a movie, though, if Hollywood insists on making Ender a teenager with a love interest.

Ender's game is hands down my favorite book of all time. I love the concept, the characters, and the storyline. For a while now I've been thinking that a "Ender's Game" movie would be great, if it wasn't screwed up by funky directors to ensure a bigger profit. Now I've found out that the AUTHOR is writing the script, thats deffinatly on the road to sucsess. If some person who has a big wallet decides to make a momentus action and fund this movie, then I will buy the first tickets avalible and watch the movie the day it is releaced in theaters. Please, dont make me wait too long, I love everything about the book, Ender is and amazing character and it would be great to see that on the big screen, writen by Orson Scott Card himself.

this should be done ONLY as a high quality digitally-made animated movie. it would be a bad mistake to do this with live actors.

Let us know when you're casting, I'm excited to see how it will work out.

PLEASE do this movie the justice it deserves. Please don't try to jam pack details in to the point that the movie is nothing like the book. PLEASE DONT MESS UP THIS MOVIE.

I am an older fellow who listens to audio books while I work on guitars. I heard Ender's Game recently - no, I really listened to Ender's game. The juxtaposition of intensive personal defense onto a lost childhood is a stroke of grand proportion. I wish sermons stayed with me as long as this story has.

Can they get James Cameron (Avatar)?
He already developed technology and process for advanced CGI animation. They may have to break the movie into two parts. Yup Dward, a serious ground-breaking animation is the way to go.
