Will Poseidon Impact Ender's Game?
Wolfgang Petersen's Poseidon opened last weekend to a lower than expected $22.2 Million dollar opening in the US and less-than-stellar reviews. The film, which costs more than $160 million dollars to make, is currently 29% Rotten at RottenTomatoes, which critics blasting the cardboard characters, cheesy dialogue, and un-inspired directing by Petersen.
Warner Bros is the studio behind both films, along with Petersen's last effort, Troy, which made up for it's disappointing US box office results by doing well overseas. Studios frequently reward directors of their successful films by allowing them to make riskier movies. But will that happen with the Ender's Game movie?
Will the failure of a popcorn flick like Poseidon finally send a message to Hollywood that movie goers want more than mindless action and special effects? Or will Ender's Game seem to risky for Warner Bros after costly flop like Poseidon?

The thing is Ender is a guaranteed success, much like Lord of the Rings or The Da Vinci Code. There's a preexisting fanbase that won't miss this movie. It would be a shame if they were to turn it into a cheap CGI fest, but considering how involved Card is, that would suprise me. At the very least, the dialogue will be okay.
why wouldn't they do the movie like the books and make two seperate ones?

Grovehobbit, the problem with two separate movies (Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow) is that movie goers aren't going to be that interested in watching the same events twice. The novels are interesting since it provides a window into Ender and Bean's thoughts. But most average movie goers are going to not be interested in seeing a sequel from a separate perspective.
Since kids age so quickly, there isn't the option of doing any of Ender's Shadow years after Ender's Game is filmed. They'd need to be done right away. The budget for filming two very expensive sci-fi movies like that would be cost-prohibitive.
Also, Card has said that integrating Ender's Shadow makes Bean's character more interesting in the EG movie and creates sort of a buddy-movie effect of Bean & Ender as rivals/comrades.
